We received total of $4,090.98 an 221.83% increased from October 2020 from 17 companies.  Out of $4,090.98 received, $3,721.89 is in CAD and $369.09 is in US dollar or 90 to 10 split.  For simplicity of this calculation, we are using 1:1 rate for the currency approach.

The dividend for TSE:LIF will be varied.  We are expecting the dividend will be lower next quarter because of the price of iron ore has plummet from its high.  This investment is very risky; therefore it is only less than 2% of our portfolio.  We may consider to trim number of shares in the future.

New dividend payment for this month was: IIPR.  We bought this REIT recently in our dividend growth portfolio.   The dividend came from our taxable account (Interactive Brokers), we didn’t drip the dividends..

My top 3 dividends for October were TRP, TD and LIF.  They were combined for total of $2,256.09 or 55% of the dividend income this month.  Ideally, we wanted the top 3 companies of our monthly dividend no greater than 50% of the monthly dividend income because we wanted to  minimize the risk of dividend cut.

Oct dividend Chart

By the end of October 2021, our Projected Annual Dividend Income (PADI) was $36,416. Our monthly dividend income is $3,034.  Since the dividend for TSE:LIF is varied, so we are expecting the dividend projection will be $1,000 -$1,500 less. We are planning to trim some of TSE:LIF when the time is right because we want more stable in our dividend income.  Our goal for the year 2021 was able to reach $30,000 in the Project Annual Dividend Income and we reached this goal in August 2021.

Options Income

Selling covered calls  is perhaps the best options strategy for extra income while waiting for the stock to grow.  While selling put option is strategy for extra income designed to buy stocks at a lower cost.

For our growth stocks in my portfolio, we decided to enhance my passive income with selling covered call/put options.  The following transaction were expired in the month of October 2021:

Our Dividend Snowball Portfolio was able to accumulate more Dividends in October for growing to a bigger Dividend Snowball. The $4,684.35 total income that we received in October were used to reinvest in dividend growing companies to generate more dividends.

  • Additional Contribution

In October 2021, our dividends increased 221.83% YoY compared to October 2020.  We had 4 dividend increases in October. Therefore the growth of the our dividend income depended on Dividend Reinvestment and Additional Contribution to purchase of new stocks.

Portfolio Update

By the end of September 2021, our portfolio was $642,101.  Our portfolio at the end of October 2021 was $707,148.  The total capital increase for the month of October 2021 was $64,900 or +10.11%.  The main reason for this increase was our investment portfolio increased 8.5% in October 2021 compared to 7.27% for the NASDAD, 6.91% for the S&P 500 and 4.82% for the S&P/TSX.

Portfolio Update

For ETF investing, we use Questrade because it is free of commission for buying ETF.  A head start on an investment account with an exclusive offer,  you could get up to $250 cash when you open and fund any self-directed account with Questrade.

In March, we moved our taxable account from Questrade to Interactive Brokers because we liked the cheaper fee and lower rate of interest for the margin.

See my referral:

Get up to $1000 of free IBKR stock when opening an account at Interactive Brokers!

Summary

October was an excellent month for portfolio and dividend income.   In October, we were able to generate total of $4,684.35 of passive income.  In addition, our projected annual dividend income has increased to $35,733 annually or $2,977 monthly.

This month, we sold less option because we didn’t see good opportunity to sell option call/put.  If we see the opportunity,  we would like to continue to sell more options to supplement our income in the future.

Our Dividend Snowball portfolio is progressing well for us.  We are happy with our buy/sell transactions in October.

How was your passive income in October?
